I'm starting to get nervous about losing Google Reader

We're down to the last two weeks of availability of Google Reader.

Like tens of thousands of you, I'm trying to figure out what to switch to.

I tried The Old Reader, and it looks pretty nice, but it hasn't been very reliable. I frequently get the pictures of kittens, with a polite message apologizing for their inability to show me actual data. So they seem to be polite, and hard-working, but over-whelmed.

I tried NewsBlur, and it looks appealing, but they won't let me add even a single feed without giving them my credit card. It's not all that expensive ($2/month), but I was really hoping I'd get to try it for free and see if it worked or not first.

I guess maybe the next ones I'll try are Feedly and NetVibes.

Am I nuts? Is this working better for anyone else? What is everyone switching to?

  1. I am worried too! I tried Feedly and it was just fine, but when I read the small print I found they are just a front end to Google's server, they hope to add their own server real soon now. What could possibly go wrong?

  2. I've settled for The Old Reader for now; The reliability issues haven't affected me too much so far.

    1. Indeed. I've been updating my various Feedly clients, trying to keep pace. One (short-term?) casualty appears to be that the Feedly client for Chrome on Linux is unreliable. But, mostly, Feedly is working for me...
